UUCSA Palestinian Advocacy Group Hosts National Outreach and Meeting in Durban
21-23 August 2025
The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) Palestinian Advocacy Sub-Committee convened a National Outreach, & Meeting of Ulama and community leaders in Durban, from Thursday, 21 August to Saturday 23 August 2025.
In line with UUCSA’s commitment to advocacy and awareness, the meeting was accompanied by a series of outreach programs aimed at strengthening community engagement and solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
A group of fifteen young Ulama, representing diverse regions across South Africa, from as far afield as Upington and Port Elizabeth, travelled to Durban to participate in these programs.
The programmes were coordinated by the Durban branch of the UUCSA Palestinian Advocacy Committee, under the leadership of Moulana Kajee, ensuring a structured and impactful rollout of activities.
The delegation also led Jumuah programs at Masajid in Durban as part of their outreach.
The main programme was held at Masjid Al-Fatah in La Lucia, where a large group of Ulama convened to engage in how to mobilise the Muslim community more effectively given the horrendous situation in Gaza.
Main Points raised at the forum were:
- Imams and Ulama need to adopt more cohesive and effective strategies in mobilising their communities.
- Framing of the narrative has to be authentic, concise and impactful.
- Self introspection into our lifestyle and conscientious curbing of extravagance and luxuries in solidarity with our Palestinian people.
- To be alive to realities within South Africa and the global effort to frame the genocide as something regional and complicated to talk about.
- To harness the power of social media in spreading the message and to support those who are in the forefront of this campaign.
