How to lodge a formal complaint?

  • Firstly go to the CRL Commission’s official: https://www.crlcommission.org.za/complaints/.
  • (The complaint form can be completed on the page by an electronic form, or one can download a form and complete it. Both are the same.)
  • Secondly, please complete all your personal information.
  • Finally, in the complaint section, add this:

“A recent assignment for Grade 10 learners in Gauteng included a section on homophobia and homosexuality. The assignment had propagandistic leanings, highlighted by the "love is love" image and a reference to the "Diversity Role Models" website, which promotes LGBTQI perspectives. The website even mentions being "Muslim and gay". Such content seems propagandistic and not educational. The questions in the assignment were biased towards a pro-LGBTQI narrative, and it referenced youth volunteer groups supporting LGBTQI causes within schools. This 24-mark assignment forces students to potentially compromise religious viewpoints.

Additionally, the "Challenging Homophobic Bullying in Schools" document from the Department of Basic Education classifies "Being LGBTI is against my religion" as a myth, dismissing deeply-held Islamic beliefs. It infringes upon and violates our religious rights. Adding to our concerns is the inclusion of an unrecognized “Muslim” group within the document's resources. This has intensified feelings of estrangement within our community. It is deeply unsettling that there seems to have been no substantial consultations with the broader Muslim community of South Africa before associating such an organization with our representation.”
