MASJIDUL AQSA FIFTY ONE YEARS LATER THE INFERNO CONTINUES TO BLAZE
All praise is due to Allah and may His choicest salutations continue to descend upon our Master and Leader Mohamed (May Peace be upon him)
On 21 August, 1969, an extremist Australian Christian, Dennis Michael Rohan, attempted to set fire to Al-Aqsa Mosque. Fifty one years later the threat against the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa continues to blaze fuelled by the oppressive and illegitimate occupation of Palestine.
The fire destroyed some of Jerusalem's most historic landmarks, including a 1,000-year-old pulpit. It was Nur al-Din Zangi who ordered the construction of the pulpit while preparing for the conquest of Jerusalem but died before he could retake the city. Salah al-Din Al-Ayubi undertook the transportation of the pulpit from Aleppo to Jerusalem in AH 583 / AD 1187.
The pulpit signified the victory of Jerusalem, today; it signifies the ongoing struggle for the liberation of Al Quds. It serves as a symbol of hope and courage. It serves as a reminder that when the pulpit of Aqsa is threatened the pulpits of all masaajid in the world should reverberate with the call for resistance against the desecration of the third holiest site in Islam.
The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) calls upon Muslims to support the global campaign initiated by the Mimbar Al Aqsa Forum schedule to begin on the 21 August 2020
