Annexation Of Jerusalem By Israel Against International Law

Mr Trump’s announcement that the United States recognises Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is simply a fulfilment of his signature promise made during the 2016 presidential election. His announcement comes as no surprise given that America has been an effective partner in Israel’s continued effacement of Palestine from the map of the Middle East. The USA was never an honest broker of peace in the Palestinian conflict.

If at all it is America’s biased policy towards occupied Palestine that has contributed to the protraction of the conflict despite several UN resolutions.

Trumps declaration legitimizes the freedom to operate outside the constraints of international law. The annexation of Jerusalem by Israel clearly goes against international law and relevant UN resolutions. In every instant of Israel’s crimes against humanity, the US has only served to justify Israeli aggression. Given the US’ own crimes against humanity in it’s illegal wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc., why wouldn’t they?

The international community’s intervention is needed now more than ever, it has to go beyond issuing feeble statements of ‘regret’ to decisive action aimed at fortifying an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty over all the lands occupied in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant [UN] Security Council Resolutions.

We call upon our government to immediately downgrade the SA Embassy in Israel and petition the UN to hold Israel accountable for its unlawful annexation!
